Lactic acid is the one I reach for when someone wants the result of a peel but has skin that will not take glycolic. It is a larger molecule, so it works nearer the surface and it is kinder about it. This kit also puts hydration back in as it goes, which is why it suits people who normally find peels leave them tight for a week.

Key actives
| Active | What it does | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Vegan lactic acid | An alpha hydroxy acid with a larger molecule than glycolic, so it works closer to the surface. | Larger molecule, gentler passage. It is why this is the peel for skin that reacts to glycolic. |
| Ferulic acid | An antioxidant that stabilises other antioxidants and adds protection against environmental damage. | Freshly exfoliated skin is more exposed. Pairing the acid with an antioxidant is sensible formulation. |
| Alpha arbutin with niacinamide | Brightening actives that work on the look of dark spots and uneven tone. | This is the peel aimed at tone rather than texture, and these are the ingredients that make that true. |

Common questions
The Retinol + C kit is aimed at texture and fine lines. This one is aimed at tone and brightness, using lactic acid rather than retinol, with alpha arbutin and niacinamide for dark spots. If your complaint is dullness and uneven colour, choose this one. If it is roughness and fine lines, choose the other.
It is gentler, which is not the same as ineffective. The molecule is larger so it does not travel as deep, and it brings its own hydrating behaviour with it. For sensitive or dehydrated skin that is an advantage, not a compromise.
It helps the look of surface discolouration and it supports a more even tone over repeated use. Deeper pigmentation, and melasma in particular, is a different problem and peeling at home can sometimes make it worse. Ask us before you start if that is what you are treating.
Leave them for a week. Your regular exfoliant, retinol or acid toner all go on hold until the skin has finished shedding and feels normal again.
