Skincare between injectable appointments

Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler are administered at The London Road Clinic following an in-person consultation with our prescribing clinician, in line with current GMC guidance. These treatments are for adults aged 18 and over.

This page is for people already in a treatment programme who want to know what at-home skincare best supports the result between appointments. Recommended between appointments

The in-between window

Immediate care, settling period, and the ongoing maintenance routine.

Days 1–2

Support with

A clean, gentle routine. Stay upright for 4 hours after treatment. A simple moisturiser and nothing that requires rubbing into the treated areas.

Glo: Hydrate + Restore

Pause

Strenuous exercise, significant alcohol, saunas, steam and extreme heat for 24 hours. Makeup directly at injection sites for 12 hours. Retinol at treated areas for 24 hours.

Days 3–14

Support with

Settle into the result. Keep the skin consistently hydrated and protected with SPF every morning.

Pause

If any tenderness remains at treated sites, hold off on applying active skincare directly to those areas until it has fully resolved.

Avoid this mistake

UV exposure is the single factor that most reliably shortens the interval between injectable appointments. UV degrades hyaluronic acid filler and accelerates the recovery of muscle activity treated with anti-wrinkle injections. Daily SPF, consistently applied, is the most direct action available on the longevity of the result. It is not a nice-to-have between appointments. It is part of the treatment.

What this routine can and can't do

Injectable treatments are a clinical decision made at an in-person consultation. This page doesn't advise on treatment timing, interval, product choice or technique. Those decisions belong with your practitioner. What it does is map the evidence for at-home skincare that supports and maintains the result between appointments. A good routine won't replicate what a clinical treatment does. The strongest case for it is SPF, applied daily, which has a direct and measurable effect on how injectable results last.

What should I avoid immediately after anti-wrinkle injections?

For the first 4 hours: remain upright, avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas, and avoid lying face-down. For 24 hours: strenuous exercise, significant alcohol, saunas and extreme heat. These precautions reduce bruising risk and help the product settle correctly. Specific guidance from your treating clinician takes priority over general advice.

Does skincare actually extend the result of injectable treatments?

It supports the skin quality that injectable treatments enhance, and daily SPF has a direct effect on how quickly UV degrades the result. It won't change the biological half-life of the medicine or the natural metabolism of a filler. The strongest evidence is for SPF, antioxidants and retinoids applied consistently. They are maintenance, not a substitute for the treatment itself.

Can I wear makeup after filler?

A light, non-comedogenic makeup is usually fine a few hours after filler, once any immediate swelling has settled. Apply with a damp sponge rather than fingers to avoid dragging or pressure at injection sites. Remove gently at the end of the day. Avoid heavy products directly at treated areas for the first 12 hours.

How long should I wait between appointments?

That question is for your treating clinician at an in-person consultation. There is no general answer. The right interval depends on the product used, the area treated, your metabolism and the result you are maintaining. This page does not advise on treatment planning.
