Lips

Lip colour divides on one question: how much you mind reapplying. Matte formulas stay put and are drier by design. Satins and glosses are more comfortable and need topping up. Neither is better, and knowing which trade-off you prefer saves buying the wrong one twice.

Lips

Satin Lipstick and Lipstick give colour with comfort, and Suede Matte Crayon is the long-wearing option if you would rather not think about it again. Cream Glaze Crayon sits between the two. Lip Gloss and Conditioning Lip Gloss add shine over the top or work on their own. Precision Lip Pencil stops colour bleeding and keeps the edge clean, and Lip Revival is the one to reach for when lips are dry rather than when you want colour.

Where to start

A satin lipstick in a shade close to your own lip colour. It is the most wearable thing here and the easiest to apply without a mirror.

Glo Skin Beauty lip products, curated by the clinicians at The London Road Clinic in Newark, Nottinghamshire, cover lipstick, gloss, crayon and liner, along with conditioning treatment for lips that get dry in winter or after a course of treatment.

Frequently asked

Why do matte lipsticks feel drying?

They hold colour by containing less oil and more pigment, which is the same thing that makes them last. Prepping with a conditioning balm first, and giving lips a night off, deals with most of it.

Do I need a lip pencil?

Only if colour bleeds past the lip line, which happens more with glosses and bright shades. A pencil also helps a matte crayon last longer, because it gives the colour something to grip.

Can I wear lip colour after a treatment around the mouth?

Wait until the skin is intact and your practitioner has said you can wear makeup on the area. A conditioning balm is the safer first step back, with colour once things have settled.
