Clay masks get dismissed as basic and they are one of the few things that works exactly as described. Kaolin and bentonite absorb oil, that is what they do. The jojoba beads on removal are the clever part, because you get the physical polish at the end when the surface is already softened, rather than scrubbing at dry skin.

Key actives
| Active | What it does | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Activated charcoalCharcoal Powder | A porous carbon powder used to lift oil and surface debris away from the skin. | It is the reason the mask draws rather than just sits, and why congestion looks reduced afterwards. |
| Kaolin and bentonite claysKaolin, Bentonite | Two clays with different absorbency, used together to take up oil and refine the look of the surface. | Kaolin is the gentler of the two. Pairing them gets the oil control without stripping the skin flat. |
| Licorice root with sulphur and zincGlycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Sulfur, Zinc Oxide | A botanical brightener alongside two minerals long used on congested skin. | It is aimed at the marks left behind after congestion clears, which is usually the longer-lasting complaint. |

05 · Questions
Common questions
For surface oil and debris, yes. Charcoal is porous and takes oil up, and the kaolin and bentonite alongside it do the same job. What it does not do is reach anything below the surface, so treat it as a good weekly clean rather than a treatment for congestion at depth.
It can if you overuse it. Three times a week is the ceiling and twice suits most people. The formula also carries denatured alcohol fairly high in the list, so if alcohol sensitises you, patch-test before you commit to a full face.
Yes, and it is a sensible way to use it if your congestion is confined to the nose and chin. A thin layer on the affected area only, ten minutes, rather than the whole face every time.
Not this one. The alcohol and the clays are a lot for reactive skin. The Phyto-Calm Enzyme Mask exfoliates gently and suits sensitive skin, and the Soothing Gel Mask is the fragrance-free calming option. Ask us if you are torn between them.
